I've been busy creating more word family unit activities — today I'm sharing seven free mats for short e!  Merely impress the mats and cards, laminate, and attach velcro dots.  You'll take a durable and lasting learning center to use in the classroom or at the kitchen table.  Have fun!

UPDATE: My word family mats give reading practice with analytic phonics didactics. Analytic phonics is when you use known words or word parts (such as word families) as analogies for figuring out words. Many children do very well with analytic phonics pedagogy. Still, every bit I learn more about the science of reading, I at present prefer to first with synthetic phonics instruction. You can larn more about that in this video blog post.

How to utilise and get together

1) Print and laminate each mat on sturdy cardstock.  I love this affordable abode laminator and laminating sheets!  And so print and laminate each set up of cards. Cutting them apart and stick velcro dots to the pictures and backs of the cards.

iv) Take off all the cards. Take your child read the name of the family in the heart of the board. So have him read each card and match it to the pic. You will be didactics new vocabulary along the way when he gets stuck on a item discussion ("What'southward a glen?").

5) After a few times of doing this with yous, this is something your child might be able to do himself.  You tin can pull out the binder for a reading warm-upwards earlier trying some early on reading books — or if you're non there yet, do a few Read ' Stick mats after you read books together.  You could even put the binder in a purse and bring information technology along to the waiting room.
